Castor oil is a laxative and purgative, which helps us cause intestinal emptying if necessary. It is an oil indicated to be used when there is a need to cause intestinal emptying quickly, due to radiological examinations, intestinal surgeries or food poisoning. Castor oil has strong laxative effects, thanks to its active ingredient, ricinoleic acid, and its isomer, isorricinoleic acid. Together it helps release triglycerides through pancreatic lipase, they manage to stimulate the release of water, thus preventing reabsorption in the small intestine, while helping to stimulate the production of prostaglandin E2. The evacuation effect of Castor Oil occurs around 2 and 6 hours after ingesting the product. That is why it is recommended to take it in the morning and not at the end of the day or before bed. Once emptying occurs, it may even take several days before a new evacuation is achieved.
